Many employers ask for experience, but if you always need experience as an entry level requirement, how do you get it in the first place?

Many applicants to PGL come to us with experience of working with children, but no outdoor qualifications. Others have already paid to get qualifications on zero to hero training courses, but don’t have the experience of working with children. It’s the age-old chicken and egg dilemma!

Our solution to this dilemma is apprenticeships. We celebrate apprenticeships, not just because it’s National Apprenticeship Week 2018, but because our apprentices add great value to our staff team. We're very proud of our track record in delivering a leading apprenticeship scheme in the outdoor industry. We firmly believe our staff have been, and will continue to be, the reason for PGL's success, and that's why we place huge emphasis on delivering the very best apprenticeships for our staff.

We also like to give young people a chance! We recognise that choosing an apprenticeship over going to college, university, or a direct entry into employment, is a life changing decision. We don’t take it lightly, which is why we do our best to ensure our apprenticeships are a great experience.

The old stereotypes of apprentices only being on hand to make the tea round do not apply here! At PGL we strongly believe that people learn best when they are able to put new knowledge and skills into practice straight away. We focus on developing our employees using work-based training and learning opportunities from the moment you start your new job.

You’ll be well supported by our Learning and Development team to get the most out of your apprenticeship. Our Activity staff are the action superheroes to our young guests, the pillars of trust for our party leaders and parents, and the face of PGL. In our 18 years of delivering an apprenticeship programme, we’ve found that our staff thrive with this responsibility and, in delivering a fantastic experience to our guests, maximise the experience they get from completing an apprenticeship.

All of our apprentices are guaranteed work once they have completed their apprenticeship programme and many apprentices go on to more senior roles within PGL, including becoming heads of department and managers. Gaining valuable experience, increasing knowledge, developing skills, and achieving nationally recognised qualifications allows apprentices to progress within their chosen career paths.
